Prof. Langdon Winner

Langdon Winner is a political theorist who studies social and political issues that surround modern technological change.  He is author of Autonomous Technology, The Whale and the Reactor and hundreds of articles on politics, public policy, music, and social change.  His online video, “Introducing the Automatic Professor Machine,” offers a pungent satire on the prospects for “distant education.”  Winner has taught at MIT, UCLA, the University of Oslo, and several universities in Europe and China.  He is currently Thomas Phelan Chair of Humanities and Social Sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
