Prof. James Marcia
James Marcia is currently Professor Emeritus of Psychology at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. He received his BA at Wittenberg College and his MA and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Ohio State University. He completed his clinical internship at Harvard Medical School (MMHC) and served as Associate Clinical Professor there in 1980. He was Assistant and Associate Professor at State University of New York at Buffalo from 1966-1972 and Director of the Psychological Clinic. From 1972 until 2002, he was Associate and Full Professor at Simon Fraser University and Director of the Psychological Clinic there. He has been in the private practice of psychotherapy since 1964 and has served as consultant on a number of community mental health projects. His research has been primarily in establishing construct validity for psychosocial developmental theory with a focus on ego identity. He has participated in numerous international symposia in this area and, in addition to many papers and invited book chapters, has co-authored Ego Identity: A Handbook for Psychosocial Research.
