Prof. Ian Cunningham
Ian currently chairs the consultancy Strategic Developments International Ltd and an educational charity (not-for-profit organization), the Centre for Self Managed Learning. He is also Visiting Professor in Organizational Capability at Middlesex University.
With the educational charity he:
- Runs the South Downs Learning Centre, where young people are able to take charge of their own learning.
- Writes and researches on learning issues.
With his consultancy he:
- Works with major international companies on organisational change, leadership development and strategic management.
- Provides Self Managed Learning programmes to organisations – currently his main work is with Nike in Europe and the USA.
- Writes and researches on organisational issues, including editing an international journal.
Career background:
Having initially worked in a range of shopfloor jobs, he qualified as a chemist, moving from a research position into general management and then into training and development. He has lived and worked in the USA (including a period as Visiting Professor in Education at the University of Utah) as well as conducting assignments around Europe, Asia and Australia. He has worked in business schools (as a Head of Division and as a Senior Research Fellow) and he was Chief Executive of Roffey Park Management Institute from 1987 to 1993.
